A recent report from the NPD group shows that just over the past two years, the starting age for using electronic devices has dropped from just a click over 8 years old to about 6 and a half years old. Plus the ownership of personal digital media players, portable video games and digital cameras is on the rise.
Yet, we have school IT policies that read like this: “The use of mobile phones, pagers, portable CD and MP3 players, Personal Digital Assistants and similar electronic devices is disruptive to the learning environment of all students and are therefore not permitted in classes.” (Link withheld so as not to pick on just one school.)
